While everyone is talking about cholesterol and its determination in the blood is already routine, homocysteine is still relatively unknown. Homocysteine is a protein that is produced as an intermediate product during the breakdown and conversion of the body's own amino acid methionine. Normally, homocysteine is disposed of relatively quickly in the body. The substance is either recycled by the liver and kidneys and converted into another amino acid or the kidneys can excrete any homocysteine that accumulates.
Vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid are directly involved in the breakdown of homocysteine in the metabolism. Biogena Homocysteine Formula is a quality preparation with folic acid in activated form (Extrafolate-S®), vitamin B12 from three compounds (MHA Formula) and activated vitamin B6, which contribute to the maintenance of normal homocysteine metabolism and thus also to the maintenance of homocysteine levels.
